Description

Original script and truly a one of a kind script for the classic comedy LAVERNE & SHIRLEY.  From the seventh season in 1982, it is not just a full episode script, but also includes the "A" scene (or first scene) of 3 additional episodes, as well as the "Tag" scene (brief final scene before end credits) of one of those episodes.  How does this happen and why is it unique?.....
For major stars of very successful shows, they are obviously in demand for other projects, and the longer a show's run, the actors typically get so used to the process and their character, they can in theory handle the workload of more than one episode's worth of scenes in a single week.
The script is for the episode, THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT, and is a revised shooting script dated January 20th, 1982.  The script has a lime green cardstock cover (note someone peeled away a sticker presumably with the name of the original user of the script), and is all goldenrod pages with all the pages of the additional material described above in white, and all are noted "To Be Shot 1/26/82."
So for this production week, the full episode featured L&S, but in the 3 additional episode "A" scenes, they were filmed on that one day (along with the tag scene mentioned above), as those scenes were all that the girls appeared in for those episodes, which gave them 3 production weeks where episodes were produced without them as they filmed their scene in advance.  Those 3 subsequent episodes have plots that feature secondary characters:  HELMUT WEEKEND, LIGHTNING MAN, and CRIME ISN'T PRETTY.
This practice was quite common to serve different purposes.  Fans of TAXI may recall they did yearly 2 part episodes that featured some sort of flashback scene for each character.  The structure of those episodes required a lot of sets, so as a very clever cost savings for production, each actors "scene" or flashback was a stand alone scene shot after a complete episode for multiple weeks until all the scenes were captured.  For a 2 part episode that shaved 2 weeks off the production schedule just by spreading out individual scenes over multiple weeks.
Additional scripts from this series available, many of the best, please feel free to inquire.  If you are interested in an original script of this episode without all the unique extra features, I do have a different draft available, so feel free to inquire.
NOTE:  I am still looking for originals of some episodes, please contact me if you have any you’d like to sell.
