    Description

Original third season script from the classic series THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW from 1972.  The episode, ENTER RHODA'S PARENTS, is both a hilarious and pivotal episode in the show's history.  Valerie Harper, already a huge breakout star from the show having won back to back Emmy's in the first and second seasons, had wonderful comic chemistry and timing with Nancy Walker, making her third and annual appearance on the show as Rhoda's mother, Ida.  By now, there was already talk of spinning off Rhoda in the future, and this episode introduced Harold Gould, memorably playing Rhoda's father, Martin, to great success.  This episode had now established two successful characters for the future spinoff as both played a pivotal role in RHODA.
The script is dated April 26, 1972, and is 54 pages.  Also, it was produced under the title, DAUGHTER OF THE BRIDE, and then was ultimately changed prior to air.  Other fun facts for this episode, as it's plot centers on Ida's perceived marital woes with Martin, they ultimately decide to renew their vows, and in the tag scene after the referenced ceremony, series co-creator Jim Brooks appears in the non speaking role of the rabbi.  Additionally, the long haired blonde in the newsroom scene where she passes by having drawn the attention of Martin, is played by women's costumer Leslie Hall, who had that job throughout the 7 year run of the show.
A true classic episode of the series and this script virtually never turns up.
