    Description

Snapshot photograph (3 ½” by 4 ½”) of buildings and hurricane damage at Long Wharf in Newport, Rhode Island, 1938. The untitled view is identical to a view published in the Souvenir Folder, Flood & Hurricane Pictures, Newport, R.I., identified as Long Wharf and shows damage at the edge of a wharf and paved road. Signs on the building at right advertise building supplies and one sign reads J.T. O’Connell. These are the buildings that belonged to the J.T. O’Connell Supply Co., located on Long Wharf. The structures look largely undamaged. A dual wheel dump truck sits parked in front. A man in a rowboat surveys the damage, as do a dozen or more other men scattered about the scene. A sign on a building further up the wharf advertises Narragansett Ale. The snapshot is in good or better condition with only light wear and soiling. The photograph exhibits good or better tonal range and shows good or better detail. Nice Hurricane of 1938 Newport RI image!
