I am offering for sale a lovely antique plate,
STEUBENVILLE POTTERY Co.
Steubenville, Ohio 1879 - 1959.
SALAD / DESSERT PLATE
in the
1935 " ADAM ANTIQUE "
pattern.
Center features a lovely scenery/artwork by Angelica Kauffman, 1741-1807.
The underside of the plate is marked ;
Adam Antique by Steubenville
Warranted 22 Carat.
This is a lovely, ivory-color, antique plate, by Steubenville, from 1935.
It is gilded with 22 Carat gold.
It features a scalloped rim, the border is embossed with raised patterns of genie lamps, florals and foliage.
Below the border is a Cobalt blue border, below it are gilded patterns. The center of the plate depicts a historic, multi-color scenery. It is signed : Angelica Kauffman, please see picture # 6.
About the artist;
"Kauffman was born at Chur in Graubünden, Switzerland.
Maria Anna Angelika Kauffmann RA (30 October 1741 – 5 November 1807), usually known in English as Angelica Kauffman, was a Swiss Neoclassical
painter who had a successful career in London and Rome. Remembered primarily as a history painter, Kauffmann was a skilled portraitist, landscape and decoration painter. She was one of the two female founding members of the Royal Academy in London in 1768. "
The plate is in beautiful condition, with light rubbing in the gold-finish, and 2 tiny marks in the robe of the man to the right in the center piece. The plate has no chips nor cracks, no fading, no crazing.
Beautifully preserved for its age!
This salad plate or also dessert plate is a nice little piece of art.
